Presser update from Stockdale City Hall, on church shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX, Multiple people have been killed and many more injured.

The shooter has been identified as Devin Patrick Kelley, according to law enforcement sources
Kelley was a member of the US Air Force and served at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico
(CNN)At least 26 people were killed in Sunday's church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott said at a press conference.
About 20 others were wounded, said Freeman Martin, a regional director with the Texas Department of Public Safety, with victims ranging in age from 5 to 72 years old.
Among the dead is the 14-year-old daughter of the First Baptist Church's pastor, Frank Pomeroy, according to his wife, Sherri Pomeroy, the girl's mother. The couple were traveling out of state when the shooting occurred.
Authorities have not said what may have motivated the suspected shooter, who was later found dead in his vehicle.
The shooting has devastated the small Texas town east of San Antonio, described as a place where "everybody knows everybody."
Here are the latest developments:
The suspected shooter has been identified as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley, according to two law enforcement sources who have been briefed on the investigation.
In April 2016, Kelley purchased the Ruger AR-556 rifle he used in the shooting from an Academy Sports & Outdoors store in San Antonio, Texas, a law enforcement official said. He indicated he didn't have a disqualifying criminal history when he filled out the background check paperwork at the store, the official said. Kelley listed a Colorado Springs, Colorado, address when he bought the gun.
Kelley was a member of the US Air Force and served at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico from 2010 until his discharge, according to Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek.
Kelley was court-martialed in 2012 for assault on his spouse and assault on their child, according to Stefanek. Kelley served a year in prison and received a bad conduct discharge in 2014, the spokeswoman said. His rank was also reduced, she said.
Speaking from Japan, President Donald Trump condemned the shooting as an "act of evil" and called it "horrific."
"We don't know names of any of the victims at this time," said Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt in a press conference Sunday evening. As victims are identified, next of kin will be notified, he said.
Without naming Kelley, Martin described the shooter in Sunday's press conference as a young white male who was dressed in all-black "tactical-type gear" and wearing a ballistic vest.
Martin said the suspect was seen in a Valero gas station across the street from the church in Sutherland Springs at about 11:20 a.m. local time on Sunday morning.
The suspect left the gas station, crossed the street, exited his vehicle and began firing before he entered the church, Martin said.
As the suspected shooter left the church, a local resident used their own rifle to engage him, Martin said. The shooter then fled the church, while the citizen pursued him.
After a brief chase, law enforcement later found the suspect dead of a gunshot wound inside his vehicle. A law enforcement official briefed on the investigation said multiple weapons were found in Kelley's car. Authorities said they don't know if the wound was self-inflicted or the result of the resident who fired on the suspect, Martin said.
The shooter was killed after a brief chase north into neighboring Guadalupe County, Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office spokesman Robert Murphy said earlier on Sunday.
Sutherland Springs is in Wilson County, about 30 miles east of San Antonio.
"My heart is broken," Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr. told CNN. "We never think where it can happen, and it does happen. It doesn't matter where you're at. In a small community, real quiet and everything, and look at this."
Dana Fletcher, who owns a business down the road from the church, told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield that Sutherland Springs is a "very small" but "very tight-knit community."
"There's two gas stations, the church, a community center, post office, a Dollar General, a tire shop," she said. "That's about it."
Local coverage from KSAT
The FBI was on the scene of the shooting, according to Michelle Lee, spokeswoman for the FBI's San Antonio field office. Agents from the San Antonio field office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also headed to the scene, a law enforcement source said.
After the shooting, about 100 family members of victims gathered in a community center next to the church, waiting for news of their loved ones, 26-year-old David Flores told CNN. Local law enforcement, the FBI and the Red Cross were also at the community center.
"My dad saw the gunman run into the church building and then he heard shots and saw people running," Flores told CNN. "People covered in blood and screaming. It was pandemonium everywhere."
"Looking around, it's very sorrowful and the pastors from all the local churches right now are just trying to console everybody," said Flores when asked to describe the scene inside the community center.
Local coverage from KABB
"There were several children injured," he said. "I know three, personally, who are in critical condition."
The Connally Memorial Medical Center in nearby Floresville, Texas, received 8 patients with gunshot wounds from the Sutherland Springs church shooting, a statement from the hospital said. Four of those patients were transferred to University Hospital in San Antonio to receive a higher level of care.
One of those patients was in critical condition and needed to be air-lifted.
Three patients were treated at Connally Memorial Medical Center and have been released, the statement said. One patient is in stable condition there.
Law enforcement officials and forensic experts gather at the scene.

Alabama church shooting: How a pastor brought down an armed gunman
Alabama church shooting: Earl Carswell, pastor of the Oasis Tabernacle Church in East Selma, Ala., and members of his congregation are being hailed as heroes after wrestling a gun away from a shooter who opened fire during service on Sunday.
September 21, 2015
James Junior Minter is being held without bond on three counts of attempted murder in the shooting of his girlfriend, his infant son, and the church pastor, Earl Carswell during a church service at Oasis Tabernacle Church, according to Selma police Lt. Curtis Muhannad.
Witnesses told law enforcement that Mr. Minter entered the church and sat in the front row with his girlfriend and the baby before pulling out a handgun and opening fire, according to a statement released by the Selma Police Department. The girlfriend fell to the ground, and Minter fired at her, striking her in the jaw and shoulder. The baby, a 1-month-old boy, was shot in the hand.
Pastor Carswell then grabbed Minter. The pastor was shot in the leg as he intervened and tried to wrestle away Minter's gun, District Attorney Michael Jackson said. Members of the congregation helped subdue Minter and managed to take away his gun, according to police. Minter then ran out of the church.
"A whole lot more people could have been shot," Mr. Jackson said, "They all played a heroic role."
Adam Schiff and the credibility of impeachment
Minter was arrested less than a mile away from the church, shortly after the violence broke out. His vehicle and the weapon were recovered at the church, according to officials.
The pastor was taken to a local emergency room for treatment, while the woman and baby were taken to a hospital in Birmingham. The victims are in stable condition.
Police said Minter was likely upset over a recent breakup and visitation issues with his son.
Minter had an arrest record but details on his past encounters with law enforcement weren't immediately available, according to Lieutenant Muhannad. Authorities are also investigating whether Minter violated a protective order.

Deadly attack at San Diego-area synagogue underscores rise in anti-Jewish hate
By Times staff

The deadly shooting attack at a synagogue in Poway on Saturday underscores concerns about rising incidents of anti-Jewish hate across the nation.
Authorities have not provided many details about the alleged shooter. But the mayor of Poway said the attack, which killed one person and left three others wounded, appears to be motivated by hate.
“I understand that this was someone with hate in their heart, hate for the Jewish community,” he said of the attacker.
President Trump added: “At this moment it looks like a hate crime. But my deepest sympathies to all of those affected. And we’ll get to the bottom of it.”
The incident comes six months after a man with a history of posting anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant social media messages opened fire at a temple in Pittsburgh, killing 11 people and wounding six more.
National Jewish groups, many whose leaders heard about the attack hours after it happened because they were observing the Sabbath and last day of Passover, were mourning.
“This shooting is a reminder of the enduring virulence of anti-Semitism,” said the president and chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League, Jonathan Greenblatt, in a statement. “It must serve as a call to action for us as a society to deal once and for all with this hate. People of all faiths should not have to live in fear of going to their house of worship. From Charleston to Pittsburgh to Oak Creek and from Christchurch to Sri Lanka, and now Poway, we need to say ‘enough is enough.’ Our leaders need to stand united against hate and address it both on social media and in our communities.”
Michael Masters, CEO of the Secure Community Network, a group that offers training and resources to synagogues on security, said his group was working with local and federal officials to help the Poway community.
“We remind synagogues and Jewish facilities everywhere that we must take steps to prevent and protect against attacks.... Today’s shooting is a sad reminder that the need has not gone away,” he said in a statement.
Studies have shown the number of anti-Semitic incidents and crimes has been rising rapidly after years of decline.
• The Anti-Defamation League has tracked anti-Semitic incidents since 1979, drawing on reports from victims, police and news publications. The worst year was 1994, with 2,066 incidents. By 2013, the total had fallen to 751. It has been rising ever since, with the biggest all-time annual jump coming in 2017, when the tally climbed 57% to 1,986. The majority of those incidents were harassment, which rose 41% to 1,015 incidents, including 163 bomb threats against Jewish community centers and synagogues. Vandalism rose 86% to 952 cases. The number of physical assaults actually fell 47% — from 36 to 19.
• Los Angeles recorded its highest level of reports of hate crimes in a decade, with a nearly 13% increase in 2018 over the year before. Last year, L.A. tallied 289 hate crimes, compared with 256 in 2017, according to Los Angeles police statistics gathered by researchers at Cal State San Bernardino. Members of the LGBTQ community, African Americans and those of Jewish faith were the most frequently targeted, according to the newly released report by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism.
• An FBI report released in November 2018 detailing hate crimes across more than 3,000 police agencies showed a more than 17% uptick in 2017, fueled by increases in attacks against religious and racial minorities. The count documented 7,175 hate crimes in 2017. The tally was 1,054 higher than the year before. It included a 37% increase in anti-Jewish crimes, a 24% increase in attacks on Latinos and a nearly 16% rise in crimes against African Americans.
Los Angeles was the scene of a notorious anti-Jewish hate incident. In 1999, a self-professed white supremacist walked into the North Valley Jewish Community Center in Granada Hills armed with a semiautomatic weapon and began shooting. Five people were hurt.
The Poway shooting has other law enforcement agencies taking measures.
“We’re closely monitoring the synagogue shooting in Poway and communicating with our local, state & federal partners. At this time there’s no nexus to Los Angeles, but in an abundance of caution, we will conduct high visibility patrols around synagogues & other houses of worship,” the Los Angeles Police Department said on Twitter.

Conservative Pastor Preaches That Women Should Be Banned From Voting And Confined To Their Homes
By Stephen D. Foster Jr. | 11 February 2016
Clearly, one big goal of the conservative Christian base is to one day strip women of their right to vote and confine them solely to the home.
And that’s exactly what Arizona pastor Steven Anderson of the Faithful Word Baptist Church preached to his congregation in a video he uploaded to YouTube.
In this latest rant, Anderson goes full misogynist, whining about women being able to divorce their husbands, having the right to vote, and having a job outside of the home, all of which he believes only men should have the ability to do.
“You know what they mean [by women’s rights]?” Anderon asked his flock.
“The right to divorce your husband is what they mean. You know what they mean? The right to rebel and disobey your husband, the right to divorce him, the right to go out and get a job and make your own money, the right to tell him what to do, the right to go vote for our leaders as if women should have any say in how our country is run when the Bible says that “I suffer not a woman to teach, not to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence”?
I AM QUOTING THE BIBLE RIGHT NOW!
But it’s old-fashioned…”
Here’s the video via YouTube.
This isn’t the first time Anderson has been a total dick towards women. He once went on a rant about how women shouldn’t be allowed to read, talk, or leave the house without permission from a man. He has even demanded that women keep their mouths shut in church, which makes one wonder how any woman can stand being around this asshole.
And he is hardly the first conservative “Christian” hero to call for banning women from voting. Fake historian David Barton has also said that women should be barred from voting because the Bible says that only the head of the household should be allowed to vote on the family’s behalf, regardless of what policies or candidates the rest of the family supports.
And Republican presidential candidates, from Ted Cruz to Trump to Rubio to Kasich, haven’t exactly made it a secret that they have a general disdain for women.
All of them have made it clear that women’s rights will suffer should any of them become president. And it’s because of preachers like Anderson on the Christian right that Republicans have adopted such medieval beliefs about women, which is why it is even more important than ever before that every woman in this country exercise their right to vote. Because if they don’t, they may not have that right much longer if conservatives have their way.

Why are so many Israeli women subjected to sexual harassment?
Reported incidents of sexual harassment, assault and rape by high-ranking Israeli officials are flooding their way into the media. Why is the violation of women’s bodies and dignity so endemic in Israeli society?
A woman with “my body, my rules” written on her at the SlutWalk against sexism in Tel Aviv, May 9, 2014.
SlutWalks have been held in cities across the world as a symbol of defiance against sexism and sexual violence. (Yotam Ronen/Activestills.org)
Several days ago a story broke in Israel that has been dominating the headlines ever since: a senior Israeli army officer has been suspended from his duties after coming under suspicion of having sexually assaulted a female soldier under his command.
Ofek Buchris, whose name was originally under gag order, is suspected of five counts of assault, including rape. And as a high-ranking official in the most trusted institution in the country, his alleged transgressions have provoked outrage, bewilderment, and outright denial.
Buchris is the latest in a recent string of high-profile men in Israel to come under suspicion of sexually assaulting or harassing women. The IDF is currently faced with another two ongoing sexual harassment cases involving officers, according to Israeli news site Ynet, and in 2015, 12 separate cases of suspected rape were reported. According to military police, there were 125 incidents of suspected sexual assault or harassment in the army throughout last year. A report from 2013 showed that one in eight women in the IDF were sexually assaulted that year.
It’s not just in the army. At the end of last year, former interior minister and deputy prime minister Silvan Shalom and former Jewish Home MK Yinon Magal resigned within weeks of one another following a string of complaints from former female employees that they were sexually assaulted and harassed by the two men while working under them.
Also at the end of 2015, a senior Israeli police officer was accused of sexual harassment by two separate women (although then-Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein decided to close the file on the incidents). In January of this year, Ashkelon Mayor Itamar Shimoni was arrested on suspicion of rape and using bribe money to buy the silence of the women he had allegedly assaulted.
It is important to note that this flurry of cases — and these are by no means all the stories that have made the press in the last year — are not necessarily evidence of an increase in sexual assault and harassment, but potentially a sign that more women are coming forward and finally revealing how systematic the abuse is. The case that seems to have precipitated this is that of May Fatal, a female soldier who filed a complaint against her superior officer for sexual harassment and then went public in protest at the lenient plea bargain reached in military court.
Soldiers watch the Slut Walk rally from a cafe, Tel Aviv, Israel, April 5, 2013. Protesters shouted slogans condemning discrimination against women based on their choice of dress or appearance. (Keren Manor/Activestills.org)
While we shouldn’t kid ourselves that sexism and sexual harassment are not fundamental societal flaws in the rest of the world, there is nonetheless something behind the regularity of incidents in Israel — and the fact that senior officials find themselves consistently embroiled in them — that merits consideration.
It is no secret that Israeli society is a deeply militarized one. The IDF is Israel’s heart and soul, and much of its body. The majority of Jewish Israeli citizens have been or will be a soldier.
Given the IDF’s perceived moral and practical standing in Israel, its former high-ranking officers are frequently parachuted into top-level positions elsewhere. The prevalence of ex-military men in the government is a known phenomenon, but they are also “re-drafted” into high-tech companies, banks and even schools and other educational institutions. The perceived wisdom is that these are trustworthy men — the kind of men you listen to.
That’s an awful lot of men in positions of considerable authority that have graduated from an inherently patriarchal and hierarchical institution — as any army is — and are used to giving orders and having them obeyed. In other words, making demands of people that aren’t in a position to say “no” (from the perspective of the one making the demand). That, coupled with the implicit trust in the veteran military authority figure, is a dangerous combination.
Those that leapt to Buchris’ defense demonstrate this attitude to the full. “[T]here is no officer who embodies the IDF moral code better than him,” one officer said. “We are talking about a moral man, really dedicated to his service… He cared about [female soldiers under his command] like a father.” That last bit is particularly telling — it sets up a paternalistic dynamic in which the woman is unequal, a creature to be protected by a trustworthy man. By a man that you listen to.
Moreover, as with any institution that concentrates huge authority within the hands of a very few, the army in Israel invites hushing and looking the other way when it comes to the transgressions of its power-holders. It does so because its ability to operate in the way that it does — with a given command being, in all but the most exceptional cases, the final word — is dependent on that authority remaining unquestioned.
And finally there is the occupation. For nearly 50 years, Israelis have lived with the example that one’s desire for something is worth more than what — or whom — may be harmed in the quest to pursue it. The idea that something is there for the taking simply because one covets it is toxic, contagious, and under Israel’s current leadership, only becoming more entrenched.

Comparison Essay- Romeo and Juliet vs. War of the Roses
and Juliet is
very similar to the War
of Roses in
some ways. Both of these events can relate to one or another is some type of
way. Both accounts’ families have ancient family feuds going on. They also are
very alike because one of the Lancasters had gotten exiled just like in
and Juliet. I
do not think that there is a lot of ways that these two feuds are alike, but I
do think that there is a couple of ways that there are alike.
of the Roses
there was a lot of background information. This war had started in 1455 and
continued on until 1487. During the War
of the Roses,
there were only two houses. The names of the two houses were the house of the
Yorks and the house of the Lancasters. A white rose was the symbol for the
house of Yorks. A red rose is a symbol for the house of the Lancasters. The
Lancasters and the Yorks were both fighting over the throne of England. These
two houses had long ancient family feuds so that had something to do with it
also. Both of the houses wanted the throne of England so bad they were willing
to fight and kill for it. The War
of the Roses
had three major phases that were really important.
were 3 phases of the War
of the Roses. There
was the first one, it was the longest and the bloodiest. The first phase was
called the Defeat and Exile of the Lancasters. This rebellion started in 1453
and ended around 1464. The second rebellion within the York family provided
opportunity for Lancaster to take their claim. This was called the Warwick's
Rebellion. This rebellion master until about 1471. The third and final
rebellion started in 1485. This rebellion was called the Usurper
Richard III vs. Henry Tudor.
there are many aspects to this feud. There are two houses in this account, the
Montagues and the Capulets. Romeo was a part of the Montagues and Juliet was
apart of the Capulets. Montagues and Capulets really did not get along because
of long ancient family feuds. A lot of interesting things happens in
This story is about two household rivals, both Romeo and Juliet fall in love
with each other. But neither of the families know about it, just a couple
friends. Lady Capulet wants Juliet to get married to a guy named Paris. But
Juliet doesn't want to get married to him because she just doesn't like him.
Before Juliet and Paris get married like her mother wants, Juliet and Romeo
decided to get married. But only one person knows about this. That one person
is Friar Lawrence. During Romeo
they try and create a plan. Juliet will drink a sleeping potion so it will seem
as if she is dead. If she is dead then she will not have to marry Paris, they
would be having a funeral instead. Since everyone will think Juliet is dead
they will place her in a coffin. Romeo will get the news and come recuse Juliet
and they will run away to a whole new town. Nobody tells Romeo about the plan so
Romeo actually thinks that Juliet is dead. Romeo buys a potion to kill himself
and just as Juliet's waking up, Romeo drink the potion and dies. Romeo drinks
the potion right when Juliet is waking up because he was crying and he did not
see her wake up before he drank the potion. Juliet doesn't want to live without
him to she ends of stabbing herself in the heart to kill herself.
the Capulets and Montagues are fighting and don't like each other. This is
basically how it is in the War
of the Roses.
The Lancasters and York are fighting over the throne of England. The Capulets
and Montagues are fighting with each other because of an ancient grudge that
they've had with one another. The Lancasters and Yorks are fighting because of
older family grudges. In each household they are all family and
and Juliet, Romeo
killed another person and got exiled. Romeo had to go to a new place since he
killed someone. Romeos town had made a rule that if they catch anyone fighting
or killing anyone they would get banished. Romeo went to _______. During the
of the Roses, the
house of Lancaster and the house of York were fighting. Henry VI (the house of
Lancasters) was forced to leave where he was originally at. Henry VI went to
England since he wasn't allowed back to where his original home was.
the war of the roses, the house of Yorks symbol was a white rose. The house of
Lancasters symbol was a red rose. The war got it's name from the two roses that
symbolized both houses respectfully.
In both Romeo
and Juliet and
of the Roses the
houses both have a long family feud going on. Nobody really knows why or how
these family feuds started. They just know that it's all from the past
I think that Romeo
is very similar to the War
of the Roses.
I think that because in both accounts someone get exiled and have to leave where
they were originally. Also, in both accounts, long ancient family feuds are
going on, for reasons that we do not know. Overall both of these accounts have
a few things that are similar to each other.
Hmmmm, only ATHEISTS can be SOVEREIGN CITIZENS in MOVING FORWARD?
Well, that would be those global banking 5% freemason/Greek players/pols---THEY DON'T CARE-----but they are going under the bus. We keep saying to ATHEISTS ---far-right extreme wealth extreme poverty TOTALITARIANISM---under DEEP, DEEP, REALLY DEEP FINAL SOLUTION ---will not even allow those ATHEISTS to be WINNERS.
The only access to courts in MOVING FORWARD will be GLOBAL CORPORATIONS AND GLOBAL 1%. Ergo, return of EYE FOR EYE---REVENGE justice for our US 99% WE THE PEOPLE black, white, and brown in all population groups----because they will NOT be SOVEREIGN CITIZENS.
TRANSHUMANISM requires people to be ATHEIST--but, not all ATHEISTS will be WINNERS in this FINAL SOLUTION.
Atheism Is Religion
by Ken Ham and Bodie Hodge on February 20, 2017
When we understand and embrace God’s Word, we will know the difference between the truth and the lies, and we won’t be deceived.
Almost all atheists claim that, because (supposedly) there is no God, their own worldview is not a religion. Many of them would argue that they have a “nonbelief.”
One of the definitions of religion in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, however, is this: “a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith.”
Atheism certainly fits that definition, and many of its adherents are quite zealous about their faith system.
Atheists have an active belief system with views concerning origins (that the universe and life arose by natural processes); no life after death; the existence of God; how to behave while alive; and so much more.
Honest atheists will admit their worldview is a faith. Atheism is a religion!
One candid atheist wrote, “My attitude is not based on science, but rather on faith . . . . The absence of a Creator, the non-existence of God is my childhood faith, my adult belief, unshakable and holy.”1
The Religion of Atheism Is GrowingThis secular (anti-God) religion of atheism is growing. Atheism is all around us in various forms. It is practiced (and funded) by almost all government schools. In essence atheism has become the religion of the state, and it pervades the media, courts, museums, textbooks, the internet, science journals, and influences many people you encounter.
About 90% of children from our church homes attend government schools. Your kids and grandkids have likely been adversely influenced by this religion . . . and they may not have even realized it.
Actually, however, there are no true atheists—just those who claim to be. The all-knowing God of the Bible informs us that He has made it evident to all people that He exists, but that unbelievers try to suppress that knowledge (Romans 1:18).
While atheism is a blind faith, its followers will still cry out, “We are not part of a religion!” Why do they plead this? First, if atheism were identified as a religion, atheists fear that their views might get kicked out of public places, like government-run schools. Second, these secularists will be less likely to be able to deceive children into thinking that their teachings (supposedly “neutral”) are not in conflict with the religious beliefs of students.
Secular humanistic religions—like evolution, atheism, and agnosticism—are part and parcel of the same belief system. These worldviews have free reign with tax-supported dollars not only in America but also in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and many other countries. It’s ironic that under the rallying cry of “let’s keep religion out” of the public arena, secularists have kicked Christianity out of the classroom and have replaced it with another religion: the religion of naturalism, which is atheism.
Testing the Claim
There is a simple way to test our claim that a worldview is not “nonreligious.” If atheism really isn’t religious, then why do atheists strongly oppose religious claims? Their approach is illogical!
Does the atheistic view of origins (big bang, millions of years, and evolution—each involving supposed natural processes2) oppose the religious view of special creation by God in six days? Yes. Therefore, secular views of origins are religious.
Anyone who claims that they are not religious and then makes judgments about religious topics . . . has made a religious statement.Anyone who claims that they are not religious and then makes judgments about religious topics (e.g., the deity of Christ, the existence of God, the morality regarding adultery, the truthfulness of the Bible, and so on) has made a religious statement. Though they may “claim” to be irreligious, they reveal that they are indeed religious when they attempt to refute another religious view.
Does atheism oppose the religious claim that God exists? Again, yes. Thus, atheism is religious. Popular atheist John Dunphy, writing for a secular magazine, admitted:
I am convinced that the battle for humankind’s future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: a religion of humanity that recognizes and respects the spark of what theologians call divinity in every human being.
These teachers must embody the same selfless dedication as the most rabid fundamentalist preachers, for they will be ministers of another sort, utilizing a classroom instead of a pulpit to convey humanist values in whatever subject they teach, regardless of the educational level—preschool day care or large state university.
The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new—the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with all its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism.3
When it is financially beneficial or otherwise helpful to their cause, atheists want to receive the benefits allowed for groups that are widely seen as religious. For example, atheist and other secular groups are eligible to receive tax benefits that other religious groups get. In addition, secular and atheist chaplains function within the military. These atheists want to have their cake and eat it too. The atheist worldview is religious because its adherents behave in religious ways.
The Battle Between Two ReligionsUltimately the battle is between two religions: God’s true religion and man’s false religion.
Atheists believe they cease to exist when they die. Why then do they even bother to oppose Christians and aggressively work to impose their religion on the culture if all is futile anyway?
The atheists’ battle against Christianity clearly illustrates the spiritual struggle raging around us, pointed out by the Apostle Paul:
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12)The third and final volume of AiG’s World Religions and Cults series of books deals with secular and atheistic religions. It’s a powerful resource for laymen and Christian leaders as they engage in the spiritual battle of our age. We encourage you to obtain this powerful new volume. Also, plan to attend our World Religions Conference in July 2017.
